[REVIEW] SHORT STORY : The Cactus
THE CACTUS
By. O.Henry
This story tells about a misunderstanding between a couple. It is said
that Trysdale, the main character, loves a woman and wants to marry her.
Likewise the woman, she also really loves Trysdale. One day Trysdale came and
proposed to the girl. The woman was happy but did not immediately answer
Trysdale's proposal. He asked for time until tomorrow. The next day the woman
sent a red vessel with a cacti plant. There's a tag written
"ventomerame" in the vessel. Trysdale thought it was just a silly word
and it was all a joke.He assumed that she rejected him and because of that he
left her . But it turns out it's a Spanish word that says the woman accepted
his proposal. But it was all too late, Trysdale was doomed, because all this
time he lied to the woman that he understood Spanish. At the end they broke up
and the woman married another man.
So basically this story is not for you who like to read a proper finished
unplot twisted story, because the real ending is kinda plot twisted. That’s make
sense when I looked for information about the author O.Henry himself. I found
out that majority of his stories were also full of plot twist at the end. But
despite of that this “The Cactus” story is such a light story. Even with some
hidden puzzles and plot twists but this story won’t make your head hurt. It’s
just messed up your emotion a tiny bit. Like in the part when the man lied that
he knows Spanish, for some people with anger issue might be upset like why would
he lied to her at the first place!!!
